TASTE LIFE:Exhibition of Artists’ Works and Cultural Creative Products from Jiangsu Art Museum

Jiangsu, a fertile ‘land of fish and rice’ since ancient times, is a province with a long history, abundant cultural heritage and relatively developed economy. Jiangsu Art Museum was the first national art museum in China and plays an active role in contemporary Chinese art creation.

This exhibition features 38 finest works of Chinese painting, calligraphy, oil painting and printmaking created by artists of Jiangsu Art Museum, such as Xiaoyun Sun, Huiquan Xu, Xinglai Zhang, Yanguo Zhao, Guobin Wang, covering a wide range of artistic genres, rich and diverse themes, and different styles and expressions.

A series of exquisite and unique cultural creative products from Jiangsu Art Museum will be in display at the same time, which integrate the museum’s collection into everyday items and convey the spirit of Eastern lifestyle.

Foreword

In order to promote cultural exchange and cooperation between Jiangsu Province and Australia, and to present the profound cultural attraction of“ Water Charming Jiangsu”, the“ Taste Life — Exhibition of Artists’ Works and Cultural Creative Products from Jiangsu Art Museum”, co-hosted by the China Cultural Centre in Sydney and the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, organized by the Jiangsu Art Museum, will be held at the China Cultural Centre in Sydney from October 26 to December 10, 2021.

The Jiangsu Art Museum, formerly known as the National Art Exhibition Hall, was built in 1936 and was the first national art museum in China. In 1956, the exhibition hall was built and then officially opened to the public. It was renamed as Jiangsu Art Museum in 1960. Since its establishment and throughout its development, the museum has made great achievements in various areas including collection, research, display and public services. Jiangsu Art Museum has various art creation departments, such as the Jiangsu Printmaking Institute, Jiangsu Oil Painting and Sculpture Institute and Studio of Calligraphy and Painting, features a number of outstanding artists with influence both at home and abroad, and has played an active role in the prosperity and development of contemporary Chinese art creation.

“Taste Life — Exhibition of Artists’ Works and Cultural Creative Products from Jiangsu Art Museum”brings together some of the finest works of Chinese painting, calligraphy, oil painting and printmaking created by artists of Jiangsu Art
Museum, covering a wide range of artistic genres, rich and diverse themes, and different styles and expressions. Each has its own characteristics. These
exhibited works represent the creative strength and outlook of the artists of Jiangsu Art Museum, and undoubtedly reflect the development and achievement of contemporary art in Jiangsu. They allows the audience to not only appreciate the
unique beauty of Chinese art, but also to feel the dynamism and diversity of art creation, and thus experience reflection on human nature and life.

This exhibition is accompanied by the introduction of cultural creative products, bringing together over 80 unique creative products from Jiangsu Art Museum, integrating the museum’s collection into everyday items and conveying the spirit of Eastern lifestyle.

We hope that the exhibition will give more people in Australia a chance to gain new insights into Jiangsu Art Museum and the development of art in Jiangsu, thus promoting exchanges and mutual appreciation between Australia and China in the
field of culture and art, as well as using art as a link to enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the people of both countries.
