"Full Moon Melodies:Mid-Autumn Festival Chinese Chamber Music Concert" successfully held by China Cultural Centre in Sydney

To
celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, the “Full Moon Melodies: Mid-Autumn
Festival Chinese Chamber Music Concert“, co-hosted by China
Cultural Centre in Sydney and Australia China Economics, Trade and
Culture Association, was successfully held at China Cultural Centre in
Sydney on 9th and 10th September 2022. The concert is
part of “the 2022 Mid Autumn Festival: A Moon moment to remember” series, with
the great support by China Construction Bank Sydney Branch and Kweichow
Moutai Co., Ltd. The concert creates the artistic yet poetic Chinese
traditional aesthetic of “sharing the beauty of the moon no matter where
you are” with classic repertoires performed by musicians from two
countries, leading the audience to experience the traditional culture of the
Mid-Autumn Festival.


Mr Limin Zhou, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Sydney, sent a congratulatory message to the Concert. Ms Shuyu Wang, Cultural Counselor of the Consulate General of China in Sydney, Mr Xiayong Xiao, Director of China Cultural Centre and China National Tourist Office in Sydney, Deputy Mayor Barbara Ward (Gordon Ward), Mrs Margaret Young Kelly, the President of the Australia-China Friendship Society NSW Inc, Ms Hedda Paisley, Executive Director, Philanthropy in the Macquarie University and Dr Chin Ven Tan, the Executive Chairman of the Australia China Economics, Trade and Culture Association, as well as 200 guests from political, business, cultural, tourism and media sectors and the Chinese community and institutions.
In his congratulatory message, Consul General Mr Limin Zhou said that “As one of the four major traditional Chinese festivals, the Mid-Autumn Festival celebrates the full moon, family reunion, good harvest and the pleasant season of Autumn with many rich and colorful customs. When we are celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival, we are not only celebrating our traditional culture, but also sharing our best wishes and happiness with people around us.“

Our Director Mr Xiayong Xiao said in an interview with the media that the Mid-Autumn Festival is an important traditional festival in China, and nothing can express everyone’s feelings about this festival better than the beautiful melodies. The concert jointly presented by the Chinese and Australian musicians conveyed the blessings through music and engaged the people with arts. He expected that on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of China – Australia diplomatic relations the two countries would deepen the bilateral cultural and tourism exchange and cooperation and forge a profound popular basis of friendship.
John Huie, a well-known Australian musician was specially invited to produce this concert, who selected music and musicians with his unique vision. The programme includes not only the Chinese traditional and western classical music, but also the new arranged pieces integrating the Chinese and western music elements, representing the extensive connection in the music field between the two countries. The Chinese and Australian musicians perfectly matched the Chinese traditional music instruments such as Zheng, Sheng, Pipa and Erhu and western music instruments such as piano, violin, viola and cello to present a wonderful music feast. “Picking Tea and Fluttering Butterfly“, “Crescent Moon Over Ancient China“, “Love Song of Kangding“, “Morning Song“, “Chengdu“, “Air from Suite No. 3, BWV 1068“, “Moonlight Serenade“, “Rhumba (2nd movement) The Bay of Pigs Suite” and other famous pieces, including the “Flower Drum and Percussion: Mount Viewed by Monkey · Meihu Opera” performed by the Sichuan Opera Theater of Chengdu were beautifully played and well received by the audience with the warmest applause. The Concert with 14 well-arranged Chinese and Western music pieces not only brought an amazing night to the audience, but also led the audience to fully appreciate the blending and harmonious beauty of the Chinese and Western music with superb musical skills and expert cooperation.

In recent years, China Cultural Centre in Sydney has been continuously presenting East meet West concerts with collaboration of the Chinese and Australian musicians to promote the cooperation and mutual learning between the artists of the two countries.
