With the inscription of “the traditional tea processing techniques and associated social practices in China” onto the Representative List of the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, the millennia-old tea culture has gained renewed worldwide attention. Having originated in China, tea is not only a vehicle for the Chinese belief in the harmony between human and nature, but also an important bond connecting China and the rest of the world.

Sponsored by Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China and the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Sydney and organised by China International Cultural Association, China Cultural Centre in Sydney, China National Tourism Office (Sydney) and Fujian Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, Tea for Harmony·Yaji Cultural Salon and Refreshing Fujian: Starting Point of the Maritime Silk Road Culture and Tourism Promotion will be held from 15th to 30th June in China Cultural Centre in Sydney to promote exchange and mutual learning between civilisations with tea as medium.

Refreshing Fujian: Starting Point of the Maritime Silk Road and Tourism Promotion will be held simultaneously in China Cultural Centre in Sydney. Located in the southeast coast of China, Fujian is blessed with mountains and seas, long history, beautiful landscape, and rich cultural heritages. Therefore, it is a place of interest full of charm, history and culture and lovingly dubbed as “the Gallery of Mountain and Sea, the Blessed Land on Earth”.

Fujian has a long history and rich culture. For thousands of years, the ancient Min-Yue culture, the influential Central Plains culture and the open ocean culture have blended and interwoven with each other in Fujian, thus gradually forming a diverse and colorful regional culture featuring Minnan culture, Hakka culture and Mazu culture. Fujian is also rich in cultural and natural heritages including World Cultural and Natural Heritage sites like Mount Wuyi, Fujian Tulou, Gulangyu, Taining Danxia Landscape, and “Quanzhou: the world marine commerce center in Song and Yuan dynasties of ancient China”. Fujian culture has been passed down from generation to generation with its traditional arts and crafts such as ceramics making, wood carving and lacquer art and its contemporary art such as singing, dancing, painting and sculpture thriving and flourishing.

Therefore, Refreshing Fujian: Starting point of the Maritime Silk Road has become the outstanding identity of Fujian. We are looking forward to you starting a journey to Fujian to experience the beautiful landscape and unique culture of the blessed land.
