nICHOLAS tSOUTAS

He has been the international judge and keynote speaker for Art Nova 100, at the Guardian Art Centre, in Beijing, the major emerging Chinese artist exhibition organized by Prof Zhao Li from the Central Academy of Fine Arts. Nicholas has had a distinguished professional career in contemporary art spanning 40 years, as an academic and curator and director in major institutions that include Adjunct Fellow at Sydney College of the Arts, Sydney University; Zelda Stedman Lecturer in Visual Arts & Gallery Director, Sydney College of the Arts, Sydney University; Artistic Director Casula Powerhouse and Liverpool Regional Museum; Executive Director & Curator, Artspace Visual Arts Centre, Sydney; Director & Curator, Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane & Artistic Director The Performance Space, Sydney. Nicholas has curated contemporary art projects at Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, Minzu University and at Factory 798, Beijing as well as lecturing extensively in Tibet, Shanghai, ShenZhen, Guanzou and Beijing. Nicholas was an executive board member of Res Artis, the international network of residency centers based in Amsterdam; advisor to the Biennale of Sydney; on funding and policy committees for the Australian governments Australia Council, and NSW and Queensland’s Arts ministries. He was the curator of the Australian Pavilion at the Sao Paolo Biennale, keynote speaker at the Dhakar Biennale and international judge at the Indian Triennale in Delhi. He has curated many international projects and has lectured on contemporary art throughout Australia and internationally in Mexico, USA, Berlin, Finland and Holland.
