
Introduction
From Sep 2024 China Cultural Centre in Sydney will add another three kinds of cultural experience workshops including Chinese Song-style Diancha (Tea latte art), Mooncake making and Taichi &Kongfu workshop to our existing workshops, Chinese calligraphy, folding fan painting and opera mask painting.
The interactive workshop gives students a unique hands-on experience of China’s traditional skills, while building up their knowledge and appreciation of Chinese culture and art enjoyably and engagingly.

Chinese Calligraphy
This workshop offers a unique cultural experience for students to learn about Chinese culture through an introduction and practice of the traditional art form of Chinese calligraphy.
Guided by a passionate Chinese calligrapher, your students will discover the beauty and elegance of Chinese Calligraphy, write the Chinese character and even their names in Chinese as well. The teacher will share the knowledge about Chinese Calligraphy, the story about the characters, what you need to get started and how to hold and write with a Chinese ink brush. Then a quick quiz will be followed for the students to review and prizes be won. After the workshop, you are welcome to the exhibition and library of the Centre.

Chinese Opera Mask Painting
Learn the charm of Kunqu Opera and paint an opera face mask for yourself in a fun and relaxed environment!
Opera masks are treasures of Chinese traditional culture, created and passed down by artists for over a thousand years, and nowadays are popular all over the world. In this workshop, your students will learn about the history, roles, features of Kunqu which is one of the oldest forms of the Chinese opera, the meaning of colours used in the face mask, instruments, dances, costumes and the classic plays of Kunqu Opera. The teacher will show the techniques so you can paint using simple Chinese water-based ink and pigments on an opera mask. Then a quick quiz for the students will be followed to review and prizes be won. After the workshop, you are welcomed to the exhibition and library of the Centre.

Chinese Folding Fan Painting
Explore traditional Chinese painting techniques and be guided through the basic step-by-step process to create your own folding fan artwork!
This 2-hour workshop aims to equip students with basic knowledge and techniques of Chinese folding fan painting. The teacher will introduce the history of Chinese fans, as well as the special purposes of the different types of fans, demonstrating the elegant brush techniques in a way that is easy to understand, yet enjoyable and relaxing. Your students will learn the use of Chinese painting brush, ink, and rice paper, master the essential brush strokes and composition, construct simple Chinese landscape painting, flower-and- bird painting and start enjoying this beautiful art form. Then a quick quiz for the students will be followed to review and prizes be won. After the workshop, you are welcomed to the exhibition and library of the Centre.

Song-style Diancha
This workshop offers a unique Song dynasty-style making tea process, to learn about Chinese culture through the tea history and try the tea latte art on your own!
Tea is a symbol of Chinese culture from the ancient time to modern society. The Diancha workshop will briefly give an introduction of the tea history and culture and its healthy function the human body. The most of the time will be left to try the skills of making tea latte, close to Song style, which were dated back to 1000 years ago. The instructor in this workshop will guide the students to use the tools and learn the skills and finally the students will make their own tea latte.

Mooncake Workshop
Step-by-step process to create your own mooncake!
Mooncake is a slightly sweet thin pastry as a signature traditional Chinese pastry enjoyed by the people near the Mid-Autumn Festival. Thus, the workshop is special for the Mid-Autumn Festival. The workshop will introduce some cultural background and history of the origin of Mooncake. Most of the time will be left for making the mooncake. In this workshop, students will make their own mooncakes under the instructor’s guidance. Students are also welcome to package their own mooncake gift pack (our mooncake facilitator will provide the lovely packaging stuff) near the end of the session.

Tai chi and Kongfu Workshop
The workshop offers a ‘cardio’ fitness training of Taichi and Kongfu, relax and move your body with us!
The Tai chi & Kongfu (martial arts) workshop will be operated by the president of the NSW Chin Woo Association, and she is a really famous and talented person in martial arts. The workshop will introduce the history of martial arts and relevant healthy functions while taking tai chi and Kong fu. In this workshop, the instructor will teach the basic standing/hand/leg behaviours in kongfu/Taichi, and a few movements in a certain martial art.
