Ms Cai Ju, Director General of Department of Culture and Tourism of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, participated in the event through a video speech. Around 90 guests attended the event, including Ms Wang Shuyu, Cultural Counsellor of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China, Mr Xiao Xiayong, Director of China Cultural Centre and China National Tourist Office in Sydney, Ms Margaret Kelly, President of the Australia-China Friendship Society NSW Inc, Dr Ven Tan, Chairman of Australian Soong Ching Ling Foundation, representatives from the Australian tourism industry and wine industry, members of the centre, and media reporters.

Ms Wang Shuyu congratulated the successful organization of the event. She stated that Ningxia has a splendid history and diverse ethnic minority cultures. Through this event, we have the opportunity to experience the unique culture of Ningxia and its world class wine. She said, “I am sure the cultural exchanges and mutual understanding between China and Australia will grow steadily if the governments and industries of the two countries can work together towards the same direction. The Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Sydney, will support and encourage the collaboration between the industries and the exchanges between the peoples of the two countries as we always do”.

Mr Xiao Xiayong stated that “both Ningxia and Australia are renowned worldwide as the golden zones for producing high-quality wine grapes and exceptional wines. You will not only have a deeper understanding of Ningxia’s history, culture and folk life but also appreciate the different charms between China Ningxia Wine and Australian wine”

Ms Cai Ju highlighted the diverse and distinctive cultural and tourism resources of Ningxia. She also warmly invited friends from all walks of life in Australia to visit Ningxia, “the Global Wine Tourism Destination”.

Ms Huang Jin, Assistant Director of China National Tourist Office in Sydney made a picturesque promotion of Ningxia tourism resources by introducing its long history, frontier tradition and beautiful landscape.

The event specially invited Australian wine sommeliers Fabio Nistrio and Lisha to conduct a comparative tasting of wines from Ningxia and wines from Australia. Fabio stated that Ningxia wines have a strong regional characteristic and are full of power. The white wine, made from Riesling grapes, though not exactly the same as European Rieslings, has a fresh and crisp taste. The red wines are similar to Bordeaux style with plum and berries aromas. When compared to Australian wines, Ningxia wines may be more similar to those from the Yarra Valley in Victoria and the Margaret River region in Western Australia.

“Ningxia Wine Culture & Tourism Sharing Event” is a new model by Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region that combines the promotion of culture and tourism with wine tasting overseas, which is unique and well received by the audience.
