The film presents a moving portrait of the seventeen-year life shared by a mathematical prodigy with Asperger syndrome and his single mother. Told from a unique perspective, it explores the inner world of a “special” individual while portraying a deeply emotional mother–son bond.

The protagonist, Xiu Zhi, appears almost like an “alien,” struggling to fit into the surrounding world. Through his distinctive, almost mechanical sensory perceptions and linear way of analyzing things, the film vividly depicts a mindset that differs from that of ordinary people—yet is filled with curiosity, logic, and an unexpectedly positive outlook on life.

At the same time, the story places strong emotional emphasis on the extraordinary relationship between his mother, Tian Guifang, and her son. Their journey together highlights resilience, unconditional love, and the quiet strength required to navigate a life shaped by difference.
