This book is an autobiographical work. The author was from the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, named Shen Fu, a painter who was neither red nor purple. He later married his cousin, but his parents were quite critical of the son and wife, even though the couple had deep affection to each other. Eventually he was kicked out of the house. Although the two of them are struggling in life, and even often have to go to a friend’s house to stay overnight, they can still experience fun through hardship and live a very affectionate life. Unfortunately, his wife died early, and Shen Fu was very sad. He felt that he wanted to pass on this relationship and memory to future generations, so he wrote this book.
