The Chinese oil lamp has accumulated rich cultural heritage in its 5,000-year history development and it is an important part of excellent traditional Chinese culture. Chinese oil lamps have different shapes and materials in different historical periods. They are embodied with the wisdom and creation of skilled craftsmen of past dynasties, showing the regional cultural differences and reflecting the diversity of Chinese culture. The oil lamp burning itself to illuminate others is the gentleman’s character that the Chinese extol for generations.
The “Oil Lamps Museum” in Changzhou, Jiangsu is the largest oil lamps museum in the world. Over the past 10 years, the “Oil Lamps Museum” has organized contemporary Chinese artists to create paintings with oil lamp as the theme, involving masters from both sides of the Taiwan Strait. More than 100 works reflect the high level of contemporary Chinese oil lamp paintings. This exhibition showcases a selected collection of works. The works are rich in genres and content, and will surely bring fresh and beautiful artistic enjoyment to Sydney’s culture and art lovers.
