Zhejiang Archaeology and Chinese Civilization: “Myth of Rice Cultivation” Global Cloud Exhibition Launched

Introduction

This exhibition presented through an innovative combination of linear art and cultural relics. From the decorative pottery motifs of the Shangshan and Kuahuqiao cultures to the ritual imagery of the Hemudu culture, and the ceremonial systems of the Liangzhu culture, the exhibition traces the evolution of civilization through delicate lines and restores the ancient people’s perception of nature and their reverence for heaven, earth and ancesters with mellow hues.

The visual expression transforms ancient symbols of rice cultivation into a perceptible, immersive language. Meanwhile, it preserves the aesthetic tension of early beliefs while resonating emotionally with contemporary viewers. In this digital homeland somewhere between history and legend, viewers experience the enduring vitality of rice cultivation culture.

A Four-Part Journey Through Civilization

The cloud exhibition is organized into four sections: Creating the “Myth”, Tracing the “Myth”, Nurturing the “Myth”, and Sharing the “Myth”. It opens the pinnacle of China’s prehistoric agricultural civilization, the Liangzhu culture with the political and spiritual mythologies. Following the passage of time and the thread of beliefs, the exhibition reveals the evolution of rice cultivation from early reverence for nature to sun worship, to the veneration of ancestral deities, cosmic beliefs, and the eventual establishment of a complete ceremonial system. The fourth section highlights shared traditions of China by linking past and present and crossing regions and cultures. The beliefs and customs, deeply rooted in the land, are not isolated cultural symbols but enduring links between humanity and nature.
