As this year marks the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong’s handover from Britain to China, China Cultural Centre (Sydney) and Network of International Culturalink Entities will join forces to present a specially commissioned event titled “Hong Kong Movie Week”. A series of award-winning Hong Kong Films representing Hong Kong cinema during the post-war decades will be on screen, together with an insightful lecture to be delivered by an established senior Movie Critic Mr. Ho See Wing (Sampson) from Hong Kong that seeks to provide greater understanding into the world of films from a professional perspective.

About the Movie:

It was a Cold Winter Night is widely and deservedly recognized as one of the best Hong Kong films of all time. The tale of a man’s struggle to balance between love for his wife and loyalty to his mother is on one level a deeply touching personal story and, on another, a distillation of the modern Chinese man’s burden, torn between the weight of traditions, the reformation of values resulting from the epochal May Fourth Movement, the devastation of war and the upheavals of changing times.
