“Shifting Permanence” brings outstanding Chinese Contemporary Art into focus

China Cultural Centre in Sydney is again partnered up with Adelaide Festival Centre, and this time with the support from Chengdu Blue Roof Museum, one of the most outstanding centres for contemporary art in China, launched “Shifting Permanence – Sichuan Contemporary Art Exhibition” at this year’s OzAsia Festival, which concurrently raised the curtain for CCC Sydney’s Sichuan Culture Month program. As a key component to the events, the opening reception on the evening of 6 Sept, 2017 welcomed a broad array of distinguished guests from the art and culture communities, representatives from China, the press and both domestic and foreign art lovers.

This exhibition features a selection of work from Chengdu Blue Roof Museum, showcasing the unique mindset of contemporary artists engaging with the rapidly changing Chinese landscape through performance art, installation, photography and video art.

OzAsia Festival Artistic Director, Joseph Mitchell warmly congratulated on the opening of the exhibition. He said “Besides being famous for giant pandas and the spicy cuisine, Sichuan is a place that has much more to offer. In recent years, contemporary Chinese art has gained increasing recognition and we are glad to have the opportunity to present this incredible exhibition to everyone.“

As the Curator of the exhibition, Mr Ding Fenqi acknowledged China Cultural Centre in Sydney and Adelaide Festival Centre for organising such an exhibition in his remark. He said: “Contemporary Art industry in China is at an initial stage, I’m pleased to see its change, evolution and the increasing dynamic international communications. I hope this exhibition will play a positive role in carrying forward contemporary Chinese Art.”

A second exhibition of Sichuan Culture Month titled “Creative Island” will be opened at China Cultural Centre in Sydney on 9 September 2017.
