China’s acclaimed dancers and rappers reinterpret Chinese youth culture on stage in Sydney

Organised by China Cultural Centre (Sydney) and Sichuan Provincial Department of Culture, two of China’s renowned performance troupe, namely Sichuan Modern Dance Company and Tianfu Music, held their first collaborative stage – “WE”, in Sydney, Australia on the evening of 26th September 2017.

The stage features a fine blend of Chinese contemporary dance and hip hop music, and is an attempt to review and explore real life and youth culture in modern society, interpreted by body movements and music. It is also part of “Sichuan Culture Month”, a program initiated by China Cultural Centre (Sydney) and Sichuan Provincial Department of Culture, aiming to deliver a range of events to promote and further enhance cultural understandings of China’s “Land of Abundance”.

This special performance is the team’s first international stage which drew a crowd of over 500 guests across the country, including a fair number of young audiences.

“Stunning performance and when the rap music played, everyone had their hands up and swayed from side to side to the music. The chemistry was great.” said a mother invited to watch the show by her daughter.

“WE” will head off to Melbourne for their next performance at Box Hill Town Hall on September 28, 2017.
