Preface
To promote culture exchange between China and Australia and create a colorful art feast, China Cultural Center in Sydney and Artall Culture Group Corporation jointly launched an online exhibition: Competition of thick ink and water color, collision of silk and cloth: Dialogue – The Four Seasons and Colors. In this exhibition, 10 Chinese and foreign artists showed 34 works using different artistic methods, different cultural backgrounds of life, and different regional geographies to express “season and color” for a silent dialogue. It gives the audience the opportunity to compare works of different civilizations, different regions, different eras, different concepts, and different styles in the same time and space context.
These Chinese artists not only use traditional painting and calligraphy techniques to express the beauty of mountains and rivers, but also use modern styles to show the seasonal colors of portraits and Chinese cities and villages. The works cover oil paintings and paintings of landscapes, figures, flowers and birds in traditional Chinese style, and many other paintings, such as Yang Yaoning’s “Winter” and An Yumin’s“Spring Outing”, all incorporating meticulous traditional brushstrokes and modern expressions, which is full of oriental aesthetic spirit.
The works of foreign artists in this exhibition are mainly based on watercolors, which combine extremely high realism and loose painting skills, such as David Paskett’s “Reflection in the Lotus Pond and Angie Lewin’s “Summer Garden Edinburgh”. These watercolors with the theme of colors in different seasons of spring, summer, autumn, and winter combine extremely high realism colors and ingenious painting skills.
This “Dialogue” exhibition attempts to present art of the East and West, and different cultures. It extracts meaningful forms and uses different styles and techniques to express themes, and presents different cultural concepts and artistic styles. Communication and understanding through art creation can be enhanced to promote culturalexchange and mutual learning between China and other countries.
