The rivers, lakes and seas established the spirit of Jiangsu, and contribute to its diverse and distinctive intangible cultural heritage.
The characteristics of Southern Jiangsu‘s intangible cultural heritage appeared as elegant, feminine and delicate. Not only the ballads, dances, drama and folk art are exquisite and euphemistic, its traditional handworks are exquisite, unique and elegant.
On the other side, the impression of the Northern Jiangsu is rather simple and vigorous. It’s dance performance are enthusiastic and cheerful, revealing the strong and vigorous style of Chu and Han Dynasty. The operas are high-pitched and passionate, and its paper-cutting techniques are exaggerated and simple.
Thus, Central Jiangsu is represented by the famous city of Jianghuai, Yangzhou, which is a combination of the north and south, consists with both elegance and boldness. The jade carving and lacquer skills of Central Jiangsu are ingenious, and the art of storytelling and singing is both elegant and popular, a perfect combination of simple and exquisite.
