“Let’s Go to China” Cultural Documentary Show

FOREWORD

In collaboration with China Daily Website (Chinadaily.com.cn), China Cultural Centre in Sydney is now presenting Let’s Go to China, an original, six-episode digital documentary series from the producers of China Daily Website.

Committed to meeting the expectation for a better life, people are building a better life in every corner of China’s vast land. More and more foreigners are learning about Chinese culture, and many of them have become die-hard fans of sharing and spreading Chinese culture. Kevin Cook from Texas, USA is one of them. As the hero of this documentary, Kevin visited Beijing, Xi ‘an, Yan ‘an, Hanzhong, Chengdu, Aba, Ganzi, Jingdezhen, Ruijin and other places along the Silk Road, focusing on six themes including porcelain, paper making and calligraphy, Chinese medicine, silk and clothing design, cartoon games and Red Tourism. We’ll follow in the footsteps of Kevin, to learn about porcelain craftsmanship in Jingdezhen; explore the origin of papermaking in Hanzhong and gain valuable understanding of the wisdom embodied in Chinese calligraphy in Xi’an; try hotpot and get to know the amazing power of herbs in traditional Chinese medicine; enjoy the exquisite murals in Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes, and look for the classic Chinese cartoon character, the Monkey King in Shanghai Animation Film Studio. On this fascinating cultural journey, you’ll experience the unique charm of Chinese culture.

From the perspective of Kevin and his personal experience, this documentary introduced China’s excellent traditional culture, vividly showing the inheritance and development of Chinese traditional culture, as well as the innovation and vitality of modern culture, which allows the Australian audience to closely observe the development and change of China, explore the cultural heritage of China and understand the lifestyle of modern Chinese people.

       驼铃阵阵,一场秀,让凯文重回古代长安,十多个王朝曾在这里繁荣兴盛,这里是丝绸之路的起点,见证过文明的传递和交换,而造纸术的渊源,也从这里开始。一张看似简单的纸,背后需要无数道工序的打磨,和漫长时间的等待,而这还没有结束,写在纸上的汉字,才真的见证了历史的演变和更迭,由繁到简,由慢到快,一个字可能有很多种书写方式,但它们都同样饱含了中国人的思想和智慧,而书法的氛围和气息,也蔓延在城市的大街小巷,等待着凯文的探索和发现。

     在中国古代神话里,神农为了弄明白草木的药性,尝遍了上百种植物,到现在,中草药仍然延续着它的神奇,并且形成了一门系统的学科。而同样的药,因为产地的不同,也具有不同的效果。在凯文的这趟旅行中,中医也不再是神话般的存在,中药以美食、香囊、染料、装饰画等各种各样的姿态出现,为我们带来风味、颜色,甚至是享受。事实上,你会发现这个它藏在你生活的每个角落,而凯文的奇妙之旅,才刚刚开始。

     如果你骑过骆驼,穿过风沙,去过一个叫敦煌的地方,那你会惊叹,世界上还有这宝藏一样的地方,敦煌莫高窟里藏着千百年的故事,正向路过的每一个人悄悄诉说着。飞天、九色鹿、藻井、佛像……而有这样一群服装设计师,她们早就听见了呼唤,感受到了莫高窟的精彩和绝美,并且正把她们看到的,通过丝绸服装设计重新表达出来。在这一趟遇见和寻觅中,等待凯文的,是属于他自己的秀场。

被一只猴子迷住

       猴哥猴哥,你真了不得,中国动漫因你而起,成就中式ACG,粉丝寄来的西游记小人书,已经让最爱猴子的凯文迫不及待要踏上寻找偶像孙悟空的中国动漫之旅,从皮影动画到泥塑动画,中国美术电影制片厂还能做出这种翻新?当代中漫和漫展上又能迸发多少好玩和新奇?凯文随着猴哥的足迹一路走访,一路探寻,他发现原来动漫不仅可以是超人大战蝙蝠侠,卖萌热血开高达,动漫也可以大圣携手小哪吒,人间词话寄天涯。在本次的旅程中打破次元壁的凯文被一只猴子迷住,更被中国动漫人的努力迷住,为此他还决定亲自制作一部属于大圣和自己的中式小动画。

我眼中的中国红

       问起中国的代表色,中国红当之无愧,跟随着凯文的脚步,我们此行来到了于都、阿坝、延安等红色圣地。在这里,凯文随着几位中国青年为希望小学奉献了爱心,体验茶油的榨取,重走长征小道,甚至做了一天陕北汉子,在黄河之乡体验了窑洞生活,在与牧民的沟通中,他了解到牧民的教育发展。在这一条红色的道路上,凯文感受到淳朴的民风,以及正在迅速发展的经济之路。站在北京回想这一路的历程,凯文的中国之行在一首歌声中结束,他知道这首歌是中国的另一种红色力量,歌声的背后是70年的人文历史与14亿人的情怀,这样的红色令他感动。
