The opening ceremony of China Documentary Festival was successfully held at China Cultural Centre in Sydney on 18th November 2022. Around 60 guest including Ms Margaret Kelly, President of Australia-China Friendship Society NSW, Mr Liu Dong, Deputy Director of China Cultural Centre in Sydney, Dr. Zoe White, Executive Vice President of Australia-China Trade, Economics and Culture Association and Chairperson of Australian Sichuan Chongqing Science and Cultural Exchange Committee, Mr Yang Zhiwei, Chairman of Australian International Cultural Industries Association, Ms Liang Xiao, General Manager of China Lion Film Entertainment Co Pty Ltd., Mr Duan Wei, General Manager of CMC Pictures, members of Australia China Friendship Society, members of China Cultural Centre in Sydney, as well as media friends attended the opening ceremony.

China Documentary Festival initiated by Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China and China Global Television Network (CGTN) is a global programme which has been rolling out since June 2022. Around 50 documentaries have been screened in many places of the world. The programme in Sydney is part of the Festival. 8 documentaries will be screened at China Cultural Centre in Sydney, which cover a wide range of topics such as culture, tourism, people’s life, social challenges, and environmental conservation.
Mr. Liu is giving his welcome speech
Mr. Liu said, “Documentary film is an art form that records the reality. It is very informative, educational and inspiring. Good documentary can change your perception about life and the world”. He expected that the Australian audience would learn more about China and have a more objective and balanced understanding of China through the documentaries.
Ms. Margaret Kelly is delivering her speech
Ms. Margaret Kelly said, “We are delighted to celebrate our 70th Anniversary this year. The aims of our Society are to promote friendship and understanding between the peoples of Australia and China. Therefore, the efforts of the CCC in capturing the essence of Chinese culture support us in enhancing relations between the two countries. The Sydney community can learn through the documentaries not only about ancient China but also current developments in the lives of people in China.”

The documentary “Sanxingdui: Rediscovering a Lost Civilization” was screened in the opening ceremony. The audience was all impressed by the extensiveness and profoundness of the ancient Chinese culture.
