“Happy Spring Festival” Chinese New Year Concert held in City Recital Hall

In celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year of the Horse, the Chinese New Year Concert 2014 was held on the evening of the 8th of February by the China Cultural Centre in Sydney. Attendees of the concert included Li Xinhua, Consul General of China in Sydney, Mr. Charles Casuscelli, RFD MP and Mr. Mark Coure, Member for Oatley, as well as an audience of approximately 1,000 people.

The concert was performed by the Shaanxi Culture and Art Troupe, which was organized by the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Culture. Based on the theme of the Silk Road, the concert included the performances “Qinqiang Opera”, “Love of Qinchuan”, “Qin Yun” and “Journey of the Silk Road”, each presenting the typical style of Shaanxi as well as that of western China. With an energetic response and a long-lasting applause, the audience widely regarded this concert to be a most engaging event during the New Year celebrations. One particular feature of this concert is that each performance began with a brief introduction of the main instruments on the program list, allowing the audience to have a general understanding of the traditional Chinese musical instruments used.

This New Year Concert was the first event held by the China Cultural Centre in Sydney since its establishment.

The New Year Concert was covered by CCTV, Xinhua News Agency, Australia Rainbow TV, and other Chinese and local media.
