Australian Students Incursion on Guizhou provincial Intangible Culture experience

On the 19th and 20th June, as one of the serial activities in the 2019 China Tourism and Culture Week, China Cultural Centre in Sydney(CCC) was pleased to have more than 120 students from St Catherine’s School, St Ives High School and Mosman Church Of England Preparatory School to the Centre to experience and learn the Guizhou’s inherited cultures under the guidance of inheritors from Guizhou.

Before conducting the activities, the students watched the photo exhibition of Colorful Culture and Charming Guizhou and a short video introducing Guizhou’s richness in natural, cultural and environmental resources.

With the better understanding of Guizhou and its cultural heritage, the students formed into two groups to learn batik and embroidery, demonstrated by the batik inheritor Yang Qiying and the embroidery inheritor Zheng Xiaohua. After a while, many creative and beautiful embroidery and batik works were completed by the students. The whole process was full of joy.

After these activities, the students expressed their gratitude to the center, saying that they felt the infinite charm of Chinese traditional culture through watching the shows and interacting with inheritors. They also expressed their willingness to travel to Guizhou to see the beauty and culture heritage with their own eyes.

At last, one of the Guizhou’s inheritors expressed her thoughts. She said the China Tourism and Culture Week held by CCC surely opened a new window for Australian friends to recognize Chinese images and perceive Chinese culture without any distance, which deepen cultural communication and strengthen the bridge of friendship between China and Australia.
